Project Glory research (50)

Project Glory.jpg

Prerequisities: Rise by sin, by virtue fall is finished

Before research: Investigation hints at a past connection between Randolph Symes and Tobias West, specifically a common endeavor codenamed Project Glory.

After research: Project Glory was a secretive attempt to study the nature of enigmatic ruins that predate Homo Sapiens. Funded by the Phoenix Project and Vanadium Inc., it was led by the visionary archaeologist Dr. Helena Lewandowski. As often happens the Phoenix Project and Vanadium Inc. had a fallout. It appears Tobias West used force to apprehend Helena Lewandowski.

Dr. Helena Lewandowski was considered to be the world's foremost scientist of pre-historic archaeology. We recently located her whereabouts at a secretive NJ.png New Jericho Facility, and we have reasons to believe she is held there against her will. Perhaps she will join us when free.

Cinematics are played and Site added to Geoscape: Saving Helena

Saving Helena mission

Saving Helena mission.jpg

Prerequisities: Project Glory research is finished

Mission briefing: Our latest intelligence suggests that NJ.png New Jericho is keeping Dr. Lewandowki in a high-security lab. Secure the compound, so we can get the doctor and her invaluable work out of the hands of Tobias West.

After mission: With Dr. Lewandowski onboard, we can delve into the secrets of the past. She believes an enigmatic precursor civilization once existed on Earth, its ruins scattered around the globe.

A facility for the study of Atendiluvian Archaeology can be of use to discover the ruins of this precursor civilization. Our hope is the ancient secrets we uncover can aid in stopping the Pandoran threat.

Outcome: New research available: Antediluvian Archaeology, 1sheep.png Research + 900 and cinematics are played.

Antediluvian Archaeology research (75)

Antediluvian Archaeology.jpg

Prerequisities: Saving Helena mission is finished

Before research: The scientific field of Antediluvian Archaeology studies the evidence left behind by pre-human civilization. For centuries detractors doubted the existence of such a civilization, but eventually, the scientific community had to accept the mounting evidence. Extreme global warming caused by the spread of the Pandoravirus throughout the world's oceans revealed many sites of interest. With this, we are prepared to get back on track and discover the secrets of the Ancients once and for all.

After research: To achieve a breakthrough in Antediluvian Archaeology, we have to provide our scientists with a constant stream of precursor artifacts. To accomplish this, the rapid discovery of ancient sites is essential. Our scientists have devised a scanner probe which can be produced in the Archeology Facility. When launched from a Manticore, it can detect Antediluvian sites. Then, the hazardous process of excavating can begin.

Bonus effect: Unlocks new facility: Archaeology Lab.

New Item for Manufacturing available: Archaeology Probe. (You need to build the Archaeology Lab first)

Armed with knowledge

Text-event that triggers after finishing the Antediluvian Archaeology research

We are not the first to seek the secrets of Antediluvian Civilization. Throughout history, great collectors have prized surviving texts and schemata of Antediluvian origin.

Today, some of these collections lie forgotten in the ruins of our own pre-Pandoravirus cities. Others are in the hands of Anu.png Disciples of Anu, NJ.png New Jericho, and Synedrion.png Synedrion.

We need them if we are to succeed against the Pandoran threat. Our research indicates one such collection, which describes a weapon of staggering simplicity and effectiveness, is located in a city not far from our base Further investigation is a priority.

Site added to Geoscape: The Mattock

Blueprint missions

In order to unlock ancient weapons research, you need to do a blueprint mission. One blueprint mission gives you one blueprint research and unlocks the next blueprint mission.

The Mattock mission

Prerequisities: Antediluvian Archaeology research is finished

Mission briefing: Bandits dwell in the ruins of this city. A great collector lived and died here decades ago. Search the ruins for the Antediluvian schemata.

After mission: After all this time of research, investigation, and preparation, we have it - our first collection of ancient schemata, texts, and artifacts that can be unified into a coherent blueprint for an advanced weapon. Unfortunately, the blueprint alone is not enough. We need a much more plentiful source of ancient artifacts, which our Archaeological Facilities can process using exotic materials to craft the new weapons. And even then, our scientists indicate we will need yet another thing: control over the special locations the Antediluvians used to assemble their technology. In the meantime, we have identified another collection. According to our sources, it describes a weapon releasing deadly flechettes of an unknown composition.

Outcome:Site added to geoscape: The Shard Gun, New Research Available - Mattock of the Ancients and 50 Skill Points have been obtained.

The Shard Gun mission

Prerequisities: The Mattock mission is finished.

Mission briefing: It appears the Anu.png Disciples of Anu worship a schemata collection of Antediluvian origin. Proceed with caution and obtain the collection.

After mission: We have our second collection that our scientists can unify into an actionable weapon blueprint! Remember: blueprints alone are not enough. Plentiful sources of ancient artifacts processed by our Archaeological Facilities provide the exotic materials from which to craft the new weapons.

We have identified another collection. If reports about it are to be believed, we could develop an explosive of unparalleled power based on it.

Outcome:Site added to geoscape: The Rebuke, New Research Available - Shard Gun and 50 Skill Points have been obtained.

The Rebuke mission

Prerequisities: The Shard Gun mission is finished.

Mission briefing: Intelligence reports indicate no human presence. Nevertheless, proceed with caution into these ruins and search for Antediluvian Schemata.

After mission: Collection secured! Remember: our scientists report we need to establish and maintain control over the unique industrial nodes of the Antediluvians in order to assemble the new weapons.

We have identified another collector. This time, we have to brave a Synedrion haven. We expect to develop a long-range weapon blueprint based on this collection.

Outcome:Site added to geoscape: The Scorpion, New Research Available - Rebuke and 50 Skill Points have been obtained.

The Scorpion mission

Prerequisities: The Rebuke mission is finished.

Mission briefing: Synedrion.png Synedrion security forces detected. Combat simulator suggests we keep cover as much as possible until we are in possession of the Antediluvian collection.

After mission: The collection is safe and sound in our hands.

It appears our next target is mislabeled as part of a bigger collection of medieval origin, perhaps due to superficial crossbow similarities of the ancient schemata. Its owner is a high-ranked New Jericho commander.

Outcome:Site added to geoscape: The Crystal Crossbow, New Research Available - Scorpion, 50 Skill Points have been obtained.

The Crystal crossbow mission

Prerequisities: The Scorpion mission is finished.

Mission briefing: High concentration of NJ.png New Jericho military assets detected! Proceed with caution! The objective is to secure the Antediluvian collection.

After mission: Mission successful. Now our scientists can label the ancient schemata correctly.

We have identified what we believe is the final notable collection of Antediluvian origin on Earth. The weapon our scientists hope to develop out of it is fantastic, to be sure.

Outcome:Site added to geoscape: The Scyther, New Research Available - Crystal crossbow, 50 Skill Points have been obtained.

The Scyther mission

Prerequisities: The Crystal Crossbow mission is finished.

Mission briefing: These rules are controlled by MiniIcon Foresaken(64GlowGS).png The Forsaken. Extreme caution advised!

After mission: We have managed to obtain all the collections of Antediluvian origin!

Outcome:New Research Available - Scyther and 50 Skill Points have been obtained.

Manufacture archaeology probes

Archprobe.jpg

You do not have to wait to finish all the blueprint missions and researches, you can Manufacture archaeology probes already after Antediluvian Archaeology research if you built Archaeology Lab.

You can manufacture them from the Manufacturing panel on Geoscape in the vehicles tab. In Order to manufacture them, you need a powered Archaeology Lab. The more Archaeology Labs you have the cheaper the probes are.

Manufacturing costs for 1 probe with 1 Archaeology Lab: Tech.png 25 TECH and Materials.png 75 MATERIALS

Manufacturing costs for 1 probe with 2 Archaeology Labs: Tech.png 18 TECH and Materials.png 52 MATERIALS

Manufacturing costs for 1 probe with 3 Archaeology Labs: Tech.png 10 TECH and Materials.png 30 MATERIALS

Manufacturing costs for 1 probe with 4 Archaeology Labs: Tech.png 2 TECH and Materials.png 8 MATERIALS

Manufacturing costs for 1 probe with 5 and more Archaeology Labs are the same as with 4 Archaeology Labs.

Launch probes from aircrafts

Location of the button for launching a probe
Top left pink are is scanned. Violet circle is being scanned

In Order to launch probes, you need an operational Archaeology Lab.

On Geoscape, next to your aircraft list is the launch archaeology probe button - see picture on the right

The aircraft you have selected when pressing the launch probe button is the aircraft from which the probe will be launched.

After pressing the launch archaeology probe button you can choose where the probe ProbeScan Cursor.png will try to detect Antediluvian ruins. When probes aren't within range of nearby Aircrafts this symbol ProbeScan Unavailable Cursor.png is shown.

If the area is covered in pink color it means the probe was already launched there. If the area has violet circle borders it means that scanning is in progress - see picture on the left.

Probe launch range is big (usually one aircraft can cover one continent) but it is still limited. In order to cover the whole globe, you need to move the aircraft or select a different aircraft.

When the probe scan is finished (Probe scanning takes 12 hours) you need to check the area if Antediluvian Ruins were revealed.

Antediluvian ruins cannot be in the oceans so do not bother with scanning them.

Excavate Ancient Sites (Antediluvian Ruins)

Ancient Site discovered

Send a team of excavators to open a path to the ancient ruin. The team has to be carried there by air but doesn't require constant aerial supervision.

Go with an aircraft to the Antediluvian Ruins and press excavate site. Excavation takes 3 days. After pressing excavate site you do not have to stay with your aircraft. The more Archaeology Labs you have the cheaper the excavation is.

When excavation is finished you will get EXCAVATION COMPLETED MESSAGE. Newly discovered Ancients site is always named Antediluvian Ruins but if you go there with an aircraft it will change its name to the exact type of Ancient Site.

Excavation costs with 0 or 1 Archaeology Lab: Tech.png 50 TECH, Materials.png 100 MATERIALS, Food.png 250 FOOD.

Excavation costs with 2 Archaeology Labs: Tech.png 35 TECH, Materials.png 70 MATERIALS, Food.png 175 FOOD.

Excavation costs with 3 Archaeology Labs: Tech.png 20 TECH, Materials.png 40 MATERIALS, Food.png 100 FOOD.

Excavation costs with 4 Archaeology Labs: Tech.png 5 TECH, Materials.png 10 MATERIALS, Food.png 25 FOOD.

Excavation costs with 5 and more Archaeology Labs are the same as with 4 Archaeology Labs.

Types of Ancient Sites

default

6 types of ancient sites exist. In each game, there are 12 Ancient Sites (aka Antediluvian ruins).

Sites can be divided into Processing sites and Resource gathering sites. There are 3 types of processing sites and 3 types of resource gathering sites.

In each game, there is one processing site for each exotic resource, in total 3 processing sites. In each game, there are 3 resource gathering sites for each exotic resource, in total 9 resource gathering sites.

After discovering each Ancient Site has the same name (Antediluvian Ruins) and icon. If you come to the site with aircraft it will change its name to reveal what kind of site is it. After excavating it will change its default icon to a site-specific icon.

Resource gathering sites

You need to have control over the resource gathering site and manned aircraft stationed there in order to gather resources. You gather one exotic resource per hour for each Archaeology Lab you have.

Living Crystal Quarry.png Living Crystal Quarry

Produces Living Crystal - crystalline formations possessing enigmatic life-like properties. Extracted in Quarries and processed in The Living Crystal Lapidary.

Orichalcum Mine.png Orichalcum Mine

Produces Orichalcum - the golden-hued alloy of the Ancients. Extracted in Mines and processed in The Orichalcum Forge.

Protean Mutane Field.png Protean Mutane Field

Produces Protean Mutane - a powerful mutagenic gas agent. Extracted in Fields and processed in The Protean Mutane Refinery.

Processing sites

Processing sites are needed for using exotic resources in the manufacturing process. If you want to manufacture a weapon from given exotic material you need to have a sufficient amount of that material and its processing site. Processing sites do not require stationed aircraft.

The Crystal Lapidary.png The Living Crystal Lapidary

The Orichalcum Forge.png The Orichalcum Forge

The Protean Mutane Refinery.png The Protean Mutane Refinery

Establish control over the Ancient Sites

After the excavation is finished move with your aircraft and strong team to the site and deploy forces. Ancient sites are one of the hardest missions in the game so be prepared and do not go there early.

When you are attacking any Ancient Site for the first time you will fight against Ancient Guardians.

If you manage to win the mission by killing all enemies you will be rewarded with 1000 materials and control over the site.

Materials.png MATERIALS +1000

Maintain control over the Ancient Sites

under Pandoran control
under PP control

Ancient sites under your control will get attacked sooner or later.

In case of enemy attack (Note below), you will get a notification on Geoscape 24 hours before the attack (same as for base defense)

In order to harvest exotic resources, you need to control the Resource gathering site and have manned aircraft there.

In order to manufacture weapons from exotic resources, you need to control Processing sites.

In case you lose control over the ancient site, you can launch an attack and take it back. When taking back the site you will fight against the enemy that controls the site.

GuardianRecruited.png

Note; You can add combat support to your sites by recruiting "Guardians" which are visually related to the resources they help protect at a cost of 100 respectively & 250 Materials each.
